Weather and NEPA: rain, power cuts and Harmattan
Most nights are clear. The rest bring rain, a power cut, Harmattan haze, a price spike or a football crowd, and the morning forecast usually warns you.

What night events are there?
How often each one comes is counted over many nights drawn the way the game draws them. Rain and NEPA can also arrive on top of another event.
| Event | How often | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Clear night | 34% of nights | A normal night |
| Rain | 31% of nights | −30% customers; rain on the coals makes everything cook 15% slower; every 20 game minutes someone sheltering from the rain stops by, ready to order twice |
| NEPA power cut | 26% of nights | The lights go out and only the coals light the stall; customers start 0.5 stars happier; more people just out of the bar |
| Harmattan | 13% of nights | +10% customers; a dusty haze hangs over the stall; yaji costs +30% at the next morning’s market |
| Charcoal price spike | 4% of nights | Meat, charcoal, sides and drinks cost +20% at the next morning’s market |
| Football night | 8% of nights, in Surulere only | +40% customers; more football fans; at 21:30 a bus-load of 4 customers arrives at once |
Can I trust the forecast?
Mostly. The morning screen shows tonight’s forecast, and it is right 80% of the time. Your first two nights are always clear, and no power cut comes before night 5.
What happens with NEPA in Mai Suya?
NEPA, after the old National Electric Power Authority, is a name some people still use for a power cut; the game uses it for its power-cut night. On a NEPA night in the game, the lights go out and only the coals light the stall; customers start 0.5 stars happier; more people just out of the bar.
The dark is all it takes away: customers still come and pay the same, it is only harder to read the skewers. A generator (from ₦13,000) keeps the lights on.
What changes on a suya game rain night?
On a rainy night: −30% customers; rain on the coals makes everything cook 15% slower; every 20 game minutes someone sheltering from the rain stops by, ready to order twice. Turn the fire up a step, and keep a few skewers ready for the people sheltering. The light upgrade’s rain cover (level 3) takes 50% off the rain’s slowing.
How do I play Harmattan, price spikes and football nights?
- Harmattan: a busier night, so stock a little more meat; and buy plenty of yaji that morning, because it costs more the morning after.
- Charcoal price spike: tonight plays as normal, but the next morning’s market costs more, so buy a little extra charcoal and meat that morning.
- Football night: stock plenty of beef and ram and keep the grill full before 21:30, when the fans arrive by the bus-load.
