Why do so many restaurants have suya in their name?

Because suya is the dish people travel for. A Nigerian grill abroad often names itself after its best seller, so the word tells passers-by exactly what is on the coals. In Nigeria a stall is usually known by its seller or its street, and the most famous of them become names in their own right.

What is Osuma Suya?

It is a Nigerian suya restaurant group in the United States. Business Debut reported in 2025 that it began in Miami in 2010 as a side business of Uchenna Onwualu and his late father, grew after moving to Dallas, and now has locations in Texas, including Houston, with one announced for Chamblee, near Atlanta.

The same report says the name honours the founder's grandfather, Osuma.

What is The Suya Factory in Chatham?

The Suya Factory is a suya business in Chatham, Kent, in the south-east of England, not in the United States. Its own website describes it as an Afro-fusion bar and grill at Chatham Maritime and says it has been catering across the UK since 2018, and it is listed as a family-run mobile barbecue caterer.

Searches for "suya factory Chatham" have been climbing fast this year. If you are planning a visit or booking catering, its own website is the place to check what it offers today.

What is Project Suya?

Project Suya is a family-owned suya business in Maryland, near Washington, D.C. The MoCo Show reported that it began as a backyard venture, then ran a food truck, and opened its first brick-and-mortar restaurant in downtown Silver Spring in June 2026. Hyattsville Wire also lists a location in Bowie.

Hyattsville Wire wrote in January 2026 that suya had become a dining trend along Route 1 in Prince George's County, Maryland, which helps explain why several Maryland names appear on this page.

Bros J Suya, another Maryland name

Bros J Suya is a suya business in Maryland whose own website sells it as "carnivorous experiences". We found no press coverage of it, so this is all we can say.

What happened to Yahuza Suya?

Yahuza Suya is one of the best-known suya spots in Abuja, Nigeria's capital. Daily Trust described it as a popular outlet beside the National Mosque that employed more than 150 workers, and reported that the FCT Development Control Department demolished it, with other businesses there, on 23 September 2026.

The news is the likely reason searches for the name rose. Daily Trust's report quotes traders counting their losses; for what the business does next, follow Abuja's own news sources rather than this page, which is not updated with current events.

Daily Trust's report places it beside the National Mosque in central Abuja; directory listings also show other branches in the city, which we have not checked.

What is Suya Republic?

Suya Republic is a Nigerian restaurant in Perryville, Maryland. The Cecil Daily reported in July 2024 that it had opened under its owner, Abayomi "Yomi" Ademulegun, as his second restaurant after one in Randallstown, Maryland. Other businesses use the same name elsewhere, including in Lagos, so add a city when you search.

Where is Aria Suya Kitchen?

Aria Suya Kitchen is a Nigerian restaurant in the Houston area of Texas. Community Impact reported in May 2026 that it had opened a third location, near Montrose, after the Galleria area and Pearland. With another suya group also in the city, Houston is one of the American cities where people search for suya restaurants by name.

What is Suya Joint in Boston?

Suya Joint is a Nigerian restaurant in Boston, Massachusetts, founded by Cecelia Lizotte in 2012, according to its Wikipedia article, which also notes that she was a semifinalist for a James Beard Award in 2024. It is one of the few suya restaurants with an encyclopedia entry of its own.

Its name uses the Nigerian word for a place that sells food, which is why "suya joint" is also a search for any suya stand. Our page on finding suya explains the word.

Which suya places do people search for in London?

Two names rise most: Suya Academy and Obalende Suya. London has a large Nigerian community, Londonist noted Peckham's in particular, and the city has many suya grills. Both names below come from listings or older reviews, so check that a place still trades before you make the trip.

Suya Academy, Holloway Road

Suya Academy is a London suya takeaway. Its Holloway Road branch, in north London, is listed on Just Eat as Suya Academy Plus; we found no press coverage of it, so we can say no more than that.

Obalende Suya, Peckham

Obalende Suya, in Peckham, was named by Londonist in 2015 as the best suya it knew in London. It may since have closed, so check before you go. Obalende is also the name of a district in Lagos, which is why the name turns up in Nigerian searches too.
